Core Guidelines for Being a Better Golfer

We believe there are a number of golf rules that if every person adhered to on the golf course it would be even a better spot than it now is.  Mind you, most players put the majority of these rules into practice most of the time, but being human we all slip up.  So let's say this is merely a friendly reminder of things we should (or by no means) do on the golf course.

1.    At all times treat the course with some consideration.  Restore your divots with a divot mix, that material that is in the plastic jugs on the golf carts.  At times that is difficult to remember while admiring that preceding brilliant shot, nevertheless it's good getting into a habit.  Also, on the green a ball mark gone unattended might take two to three weeks to repair itself, but one that will be properly repaired can take three days.

2.    Choose enough golf club.  Most amateurs use a club that will get them to their objective on their best day in perfect conditions, which nearly always leaves them short.  Make use of additional club and swing at 80%, like most professionals do, and you will get there more often.

3.    Putt the golf ball on every occasion you can around the green.  Lob golf shots might be awfully beautiful, but unless you are really expert at playing them, they are not high-percentage golf shots.  There will be occasions where you must play the shot, however putt the golf ball whenever you can.

4.    Keep the head steady.  If you can keep the head without moving in the course of the swing, you can eliminate a lot of swing flaws.  Hitting a golf ball is easier as opposed to striking a baseball, because it does not move.  The more you move your head throughout the golf swing, the more the ball will appear to move.  Maintaining a steady head is going to simplify the golf swing.

5.    In no way provide your spouse guidance.  I understand you think you are doing them a big favor, but believe me, it every time ends up bad.

6.    Whenever you can make use of a golf tee, use it.  Which is of course only within the tee area.  It is much easier for getting the ball in the air when the golf ball is setting up, and as Jack Nicklaus stated, "I have learned the air offers less resistance than dirt."

7.    Be receptive to golf instruction.  Never to say you should change your golf swing whenever you read about some can't-miss idea, since if you do your swing will always be an image of chaos.  But learning new or different approaches for the game will permit you to be able to adapt different ideas to your golf swing, and your game.  And remember, as you get older your golf swing might need to adapt.  Your golf swing is not the same now as it was 20 years in the past, and naturally the equipment is much unlike, as well.

Playing a round of golf can be a joy, but not if you are always beating yourself up over bad play.  It happens to everybody, so keep a sense of humor and some perspective while on the course.  A wayward round of golf does not imply you are not in spite of everything a good person.
