Tips for beginner golfers

Learning how to play golf for the first time can be very complicated at times. It involves hours of practice and plenty of patience. It is definitely something you are not able to learn by playing a video game. If you are someone who has spent long hours playing Nintendo Wii Sports, this may definitely be a crushing blow. Nonetheless, the truth is that you can never improve your golf game by playing these type of games.

You really need to pay close attention to the exact rules and form if you would like to improve your game. It is often very complicated attempting to learn how to play golf in real life.

New golfers have a habit of making a lot of errors when they first try to learn how to play. That's the reason it is a good idea to learn from a golf instructor. When you follow a golf instructor, you have the ability to overcome some of the errors which typically beginner golfers make. This will help improve your chances of playing a good round of golf and make it very fulfilling when you walk away from the last green.

Looking up is probably one of the biggest mistakes that new golfers make while they are trying to hit the ball. Anytime you look up you might very well miss the ball entirely. Then you have to count a stroke against your score even though you did not make contact with the ball. If you do this several times a round you can imagine how poor your score will be. So you can see how essential it is that you keep your head down until you make contact with the ball.
One approach to help you stay down is by properly rotating your hips through impact. If you're not sure how this is done, talk with you instructor and they can give you a few suggestions on how to do it. One other technique that has been shown to help new golfers to stay down is fully stretching out your arms throughout your swing. A good drill to help you stay down is counting to five after you make contact before lifting your head. This will create a good tempo to your swing and keep you from looking up too quickly.

One more problem new golfers have is hitting the ball straight. It seems like each and every time they hit a shot, it goes either left or right, but never straight. Now you may think that this is a problem which could be very difficult to correct. It is in reality fairly simple to correct, but you do need to be patience to overcome it. The biggest cause for not hitting the ball straight has to do with your stance. If you are not standing correctly when lining up your shot, it's impossible you can hit a good shot, even when you make the greatest swing of your life.

So before every shot take time to make sure that you are lined up to your target and that face of the club is square at impact. If the club is not square at impact you'll be more likely to hit the ball on the side of the club face instead of the center. When you hit the ball on the side of the club face the flight of the ball will more likely go either left or right all of the time. Therefore if you practice keeping your club face square at impact you will see the ball go straighter and you will start hitting more greens.

Hooking the ball is another problem that beginner golfer struggle with. Hooking the ball can be tough to correct, as there are several different things that could cause you to hook. Once again your stance can play a big part in hooking the ball. If you are not properly aligned you cannot it hit the ball straight. Also, if you are gripping your club the wrong way or too tight you will hook the ball. If you practice taking the proper stance and work on you grip, less hooking of the ball will occur.

A final problem new golfers have is making putts. One reason this will happen is that new golfers do not stand directly over the ball. When you go into your putting stance be sure that you are looking down at the top of the ball. If you are not looking down at the top of the ball you will be more likely to miss hit putts, causing them to go offline. When you are standing directly on top of the ball you will see your line better and you will have a greater chance of making the putt.

These are just a few tips that can help new golfers improve their game. If you practice these tips over and over you should see good results in your game. You can also look into taking lessons form a golf coach. The trouble with this is that it can get expensive and take up a lot of your time. If you don't have the time or money to work with a golf instructor, another alternative would be a golf learning package. These are usually less expensive and allow you to work on your game on your time frame.
